6 Ways to Wear a Tank Top and Still Look Polished
What’s so great about tank tops? They’re trendy, they’re versatile, and they’re great to wear when you want to wear something that still feels comfortable even when it gets hot outside. There are plenty of reasons why women love them so much—and if you have yet to jump on the bandwagon, here are six ways to wear a tank top and still look polished, from casual wear to date night attire and beyond!
1) Tie it as a Shirt
Fashion experts know that taking basic pieces and dressing them up can be just as elegant as wearing something expensive. Take your T-shirt. Instead of leaving it in its plain, loose-fitting state, tie it around your waist with a belt or with some fun jewelry; add boots and you’re all set for work or even an evening out! Another way is to wear your t-shirt with blouse, trendy top. This will make you look so cool and casual but fancy too! You can also throw on a jacket over your t-shirt if you feel like adding another layer. You'll be able to stay warm but still look super chic! Tuck in your shirt into high waisted jeans and add a denim jacket on top for extra flair if needed! Experimenting with different types of clothing such as tops is great way to build up your wardrobe without breaking the bank. How about pairing up a t-shirt with leather pants? If leather pants are too much for you then try pairing up those black leggings we love so much during Spring/Summer season!
2) Pair it with Skinny Jeans
If you’re going to wear a trendy top like a tank, make sure it has some structure. Structured blouses work really well for that because they are more flattering than straight tank tops. Pair it with skinny jeans or your favorite pair of black pants. And if you’re feeling brave, try layering it over another shirt with some flair. This will dress up your trendy top without overwhelming it with color. 8 Great Places to Shop for Tank Tops: Everyone knows American Eagle makes a good selection of trendy tops, but did you know Forever 21 also sells them? 3) Add Blazer
A tank top is perfect for those warm spring days when you’re not sure if it’s time to start layering. But tank tops can sometimes get a bad rap because they’re associated with, well, tanks—sexy but strictly lingerie wear (not that there’s anything wrong with that). To smarten up your look, try pairing your fitted blouse with some trendy pants and heels. If you want more coverage in your outfit, throw on a blazer or cardigan over your polka-dot number to instantly elevate an otherwise casual ensemble. It won’t take much effort to go from chill to chic! Plus, one less thing to pack for your next vacation.
4) Team with Shorts
There’s no reason you can’t layer a trendy top with shorts. Team your blouse with shorts for an easy transition from day to night, or keep it casual by throwing on some jeans. A tank-top shirt is perfect for transitioning your outfit from one season to another because they are lightweight enough that you can wear them as part of your layering game, but they also work well with cool fall temperatures. Pair a trendy top with tights during warmer months, then throw on shorts once winter rolls around. Wearing a trendy top under a cardigan is stylish and practical in any weather; just add boots when you need extra warmth. Whatever way you choose to style it, pair with pants or shorts—but never both at once! This look works best without trying too hard. If you have shorter legs, try wearing knee socks along with heels or wedges; they’ll help elongate your legs and balance out your proportions.
5) Style Over Sweats
More fashion-forward than your average tank top, trendy tops come in enough variations that you can swap out an outfit without having to mix too many pieces. The best part? They look equally polished with casual or dressy ensembles. I don’t know about you guys but I am still stuck in my joggers when it comes to dressing for work; I just don’t have time! 6) Combine with Knitwear
A tank top can seem all too casual paired with denim cutoffs, but you can switch up your look by adding knitwear. A sweater or cardigan makes it appropriate for work—and even seasons it. In winter, try layering over a black long-sleeve tee. For summer, go sleeveless and team with skinny jeans and high heels. Make sure you choose something that’s not overly baggy; tanks are flattering when they hug, rather than hang off of, your body. A fitted V-neck is also ideal: It’ll show off some skin while staying conservative enough for office wear. 4) Mix Patterns in a Flattering Way:
Some women avoid pairing different patterns together in their outfits out of fear that it will clash. But that’s just not true! Instead, focus on working two different patterns together so they complement each other. Want proof?
