Denim & Jeans

Denim is sized by waist. Many of the brands we carry — including Judy Blue, RISEN and KanCan — label sizes as a number followed by the waist measurement, for example 7(28).

Tummy-control denim: Styles with a tummy-control waistband run more generous than standard denim. If you are between sizes in these, size down — the compression panel adds structure and takes up the extra room.

How to Measure

Use a soft tape measure over your underwear, not over clothing. Keep the tape level and snug, but not tight enough to compress.

Bust — measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level across your back.
Waist — measure around the narrowest part of your natural waist, usually just above the belly button. Don't hold your breath.
Hip — stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
Inseam — measure from the top of your inner thigh down to where you want the hem to fall, in the shoes you plan to wear.

Still Between Sizes?

If you land between two sizes, the fabric decides it:

Woven, non-stretch (most shirts, blazers, structured dresses) — size up.
Heavy stretch (leggings, ponte, tummy-control denim) — size down.
Oversized or relaxed styles — take your usual size; the extra room is already built in.

Ripped Boyfriend Jeans

These ripped boyfriend jeans come in a single medium wash in sizes S to XL, with distressing worked into the denim rather than printed on. Distressed denim is one of those things that either looks deliberate or looks damaged, and the difference is where the wear is placed — here it is at the thigh and knee, which is where real wear happens.

The denim is a stretch blend, so it gives across the hip and recovers. Our maker lists this as a curvy cut, which means it is drafted with more room at the hip relative to the waist than a straight-size block — useful if standard jeans gap at the back of the waistband on you.

Order to your waist measurement and check it against the size chart, which has a separate denim conversion. If you are between sizes in stretch denim, take the smaller one: stretch relaxes half a size through the day.

Care, and making the distressing last

Wash cold, inside out, and line dry. Tumble drying on heat is what turns a small rip into a large one and takes the recovery out of the stretch. Washing inside out also keeps the wash from fading unevenly around the distressed areas.
