Denim & Jeans

Denim is sized by waist. Many of the brands we carry — including Judy Blue, RISEN and KanCan — label sizes as a number followed by the waist measurement, for example 7(28).

Tummy-control denim: Styles with a tummy-control waistband run more generous than standard denim. If you are between sizes in these, size down — the compression panel adds structure and takes up the extra room.

How to Measure

Use a soft tape measure over your underwear, not over clothing. Keep the tape level and snug, but not tight enough to compress.

  1. Bust — measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level across your back.
  2. Waist — measure around the narrowest part of your natural waist, usually just above the belly button. Don't hold your breath.
  3. Hip — stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
  4. Inseam — measure from the top of your inner thigh down to where you want the hem to fall, in the shoes you plan to wear.

Still Between Sizes?

If you land between two sizes, the fabric decides it:

  • Woven, non-stretch (most shirts, blazers, structured dresses) — size up.
  • Heavy stretch (leggings, ponte, tummy-control denim) — size down.
  • Oversized or relaxed styles — take your usual size; the extra room is already built in.

Fringe Hem Zip-Up Shirt Dress

 

A shirt dress taken to maxi length, closed with a full-length zip instead of buttons, finished with fringe at the hem. 

It has pockets. Six colors, including white, camel, khaki, navy, black, and a light green.

Why this one works

  • A zip, not a button placket. Faster to get into, and it lets you set exactly how open you want the neckline — or the hem.
  • Pockets. In a maxi dress, this is not a small thing.
  • Fringed hem that moves as you walk and keeps a long, plain column from reading flat.
  • Six color ways, weighted toward neutrals that layer easily.
  • Sizes S through XXL, bust 39.4" to 48".

Length and fit

This is a full maxi — 53.5" to 55.1" from the shoulder, so it will sit at or near the ankle on most heights and pool slightly if you're petite. Hip runs 38.6" to 46.5" and bust 39.4" to 48". Sleeves measure 18.5" to 20.1". The polyester has a slight stretch, which is what keeps a long shirt shape from feeling rigid when you sit down.

How to wear it

  • Zipped to the top, belted at the waist with your own belt, for a defined shape.
  • Unzipped partway at the hem so it moves like a slit skirt when you walk.
  • Fully open over a tank and wide-leg pants, as a duster.

Before you order

Will it be too long? At 53.5"–55.1" from the shoulder, under about 5'4" you'll likely want a heel or a hem. Measure from your own shoulder down and see where it lands.

Is it lined? No. In the lighter color ways — white especially — plan on a slip underneath.

How do I keep the fringe looking right? Cold wash, low heat, and shake it out before it dries. Fringe that gets hot and tangled never quite recovers.
