Denim & Jeans

Denim is sized by waist. Many of the brands we carry — including Judy Blue, RISEN and KanCan — label sizes as a number followed by the waist measurement, for example 7(28).

Tummy-control denim: Styles with a tummy-control waistband run more generous than standard denim. If you are between sizes in these, size down — the compression panel adds structure and takes up the extra room.

How to Measure

Use a soft tape measure over your underwear, not over clothing. Keep the tape level and snug, but not tight enough to compress.

Bust — measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level across your back.
Waist — measure around the narrowest part of your natural waist, usually just above the belly button. Don't hold your breath.
Hip — stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
Inseam — measure from the top of your inner thigh down to where you want the hem to fall, in the shoes you plan to wear.

Still Between Sizes?

If you land between two sizes, the fabric decides it:

Woven, non-stretch (most shirts, blazers, structured dresses) — size up.
Heavy stretch (leggings, ponte, tummy-control denim) — size down.
Oversized or relaxed styles — take your usual size; the extra room is already built in.

Read the proportions first

This one is cropped and oversized at the same time, and the numbers make that clear: the body runs 20.9" to 22.6" from the shoulder — several inches shorter than a standard cardigan — while the bust runs 46.1" to 51.6", which is wide even at the small.

The result is a boxy, cropped shape that ends at or near the natural waist. It's a good proportion over a high waist and the wrong one if you want a cardigan that covers your hips.

Buttoned or open, two different garments

Fastened all the way, this is a striped sweater with a neat button placket. Open, it's a layer with a strong vertical line down each side of the front — which is the more flattering of the two, and the reason button-down cardigans have outlasted every trend that's tried to replace them.
