Denim & Jeans

Denim is sized by waist. Many of the brands we carry — including Judy Blue, RISEN and KanCan — label sizes as a number followed by the waist measurement, for example 7(28).

Tummy-control denim: Styles with a tummy-control waistband run more generous than standard denim. If you are between sizes in these, size down — the compression panel adds structure and takes up the extra room.

How to Measure

Use a soft tape measure over your underwear, not over clothing. Keep the tape level and snug, but not tight enough to compress.

Bust — measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level across your back.
Waist — measure around the narrowest part of your natural waist, usually just above the belly button. Don't hold your breath.
Hip — stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
Inseam — measure from the top of your inner thigh down to where you want the hem to fall, in the shoes you plan to wear.

Still Between Sizes?

If you land between two sizes, the fabric decides it:

Woven, non-stretch (most shirts, blazers, structured dresses) — size up.
Heavy stretch (leggings, ponte, tummy-control denim) — size down.
Oversized or relaxed styles — take your usual size; the extra room is already built in.

Polka Dot Maxi Dress

This polka dot maxi dress has a halter neckline and a floor-skimming skirt, and comes in black, dark blue and burgundy in sizes S to XL. It is one of the few dresses that genuinely works for a summer wedding and a Saturday lunch without changing anything but the shoes.

The halter neck and the shape

The halter ties behind the neck, which leaves the shoulders and upper back open and means no bra straps showing at the sides — a strapless or adhesive bra works best with it. The skirt falls straight from under the bust rather than cinching at the natural waist, so it moves easily and does not need anything held in.

Measurements for each size are in the size chart in inches and centimetres. Because the halter adjusts, bust fit is more forgiving here than on a fixed-strap dress; order to your hip measurement if your sizes differ.

Fabric and care

Woven polyester — light, quick to dry, and it does not hold creases from a suitcase, which is why this one travels well. Machine washable on cold; hang to dry rather than tumbling and it needs no ironing.

Styling a polka dot maxi dress
