Denim is sized by waist. Many of the brands we carry — including Judy Blue, RISEN and KanCan — label sizes as a number followed by the waist measurement, for example 7(28).

Tummy-control denim: Styles with a tummy-control waistband run more generous than standard denim. If you are between sizes in these, size down — the compression panel adds structure and takes up the extra room.

How to Measure

Use a soft tape measure over your underwear, not over clothing. Keep the tape level and snug, but not tight enough to compress.

Bust — measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level across your back.
Waist — measure around the narrowest part of your natural waist, usually just above the belly button. Don't hold your breath.
Hip — stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
Inseam — measure from the top of your inner thigh down to where you want the hem to fall, in the shoes you plan to wear.

Still Between Sizes?

If you land between two sizes, the fabric decides it:

Woven, non-stretch (most shirts, blazers, structured dresses) — size up.
Heavy stretch (leggings, ponte, tummy-control denim) — size down.
Oversized or relaxed styles — take your usual size; the extra room is already built in.

Why a crossover waistband

A straight waistband cuts a horizontal line across the middle of you. A crossover breaks that line into two angles instead, which draws the eye inward and up rather than straight across. It's the same reason a wrap dress works.

It's also more comfortable in practice: the overlapping panels sit at slightly different heights, so there's no single band of pressure at the waist.

Good to know

Does the crossover waistband stay put? The overlap is part of the knit rather than a separate piece, so it doesn't shift or roll the way a folded band can.

How much support does the cami give? Light. It's a cami, not a sports bra — fine for low impact, layer a bra underneath for anything more.

How do I keep the stretch? Cold wash, no softener, hang to dry. Heat is what kills elastane.
