Denim is sized by waist. Many of the brands we carry — including Judy Blue, RISEN and KanCan — label sizes as a number followed by the waist measurement, for example 7(28).

Tummy-control denim: Styles with a tummy-control waistband run more generous than standard denim. If you are between sizes in these, size down — the compression panel adds structure and takes up the extra room.

How to Measure

Use a soft tape measure over your underwear, not over clothing. Keep the tape level and snug, but not tight enough to compress.

Bust — measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level across your back.
Waist — measure around the narrowest part of your natural waist, usually just above the belly button. Don't hold your breath.
Hip — stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
Inseam — measure from the top of your inner thigh down to where you want the hem to fall, in the shoes you plan to wear.

Still Between Sizes?

If you land between two sizes, the fabric decides it:

Woven, non-stretch (most shirts, blazers, structured dresses) — size up.
Heavy stretch (leggings, ponte, tummy-control denim) — size down.
Oversized or relaxed styles — take your usual size; the extra room is already built in.

These measurements were taken by hand from the garment and may vary by roughly 0.4 to 1.2 inches.

Before you order

How do I size a drawstring pant? By hip. The waist adjusts to you; the hip doesn't.

Will they be too long? The inseam runs about 27.6" to 28.3" — slightly cropped on taller frames, full length on most. Under about 5'4" expect them to pool without a heel.

Are they good for travel? Very. Lightweight, pull-on, no hardware at the waist, and loose enough to sit in for hours.
