Business Casual Outfits for Women
Business casual is the least-defined dress code most of us work under. The practical version: look deliberate, stay comfortable for eight hours, and don't need a blazer on top to make it work.
The tops
A Johnny collar or structured blouse does most of the work — collar and shoulder seams are what separate "office" from "weekend" in the same fabric weight. A collared knit or fine-gauge sweater covers cooler offices without reading casual.
The bottoms
High-waist wide-leg trousers are the most forgiving option: they skim rather than cling, and they sit properly when you're seated all day. Straight-leg is the safer bet for a stricter office. A midi skirt works anywhere a dress code allows one.
Getting the fit right
-
Size up in woven, non-stretch trousers. Structured fabric has less give than it looks like it does.
-
Check the rise sitting down, not standing in front of a mirror.
-
One blazer covers a lot. A lapel-collar blazer turns almost anything here into interview-appropriate.
Sizes S through 3XL. See our interview outfits for the more formal end, and the size guide for measurements.
