Denim & Jeans

Denim is sized by waist. Many of the brands we carry — including Judy Blue, RISEN and KanCan — label sizes as a number followed by the waist measurement, for example 7(28).

Tummy-control denim: Styles with a tummy-control waistband run more generous than standard denim. If you are between sizes in these, size down — the compression panel adds structure and takes up the extra room.

How to Measure

Use a soft tape measure over your underwear, not over clothing. Keep the tape level and snug, but not tight enough to compress.

Bust — measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level across your back.
Waist — measure around the narrowest part of your natural waist, usually just above the belly button. Don't hold your breath.
Hip — stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
Inseam — measure from the top of your inner thigh down to where you want the hem to fall, in the shoes you plan to wear.

Still Between Sizes?

If you land between two sizes, the fabric decides it:

Woven, non-stretch (most shirts, blazers, structured dresses) — size up.
Heavy stretch (leggings, ponte, tummy-control denim) — size down.
Oversized or relaxed styles — take your usual size; the extra room is already built in.

Flare Pants with Slits

These are flare pants with slits at the front of each leg, in black and deep rose, in sizes S to XL. The slit runs up from the hem, which does two useful things: it breaks up the weight of a flare leg, and it lets the hem fall over a shoe instead of catching on it.

How the flare pants with slits fit

Straight through the hip and thigh, then flared from the knee, with the slit opening at the front of the leg. Dress-pant weight rather than jean weight, so they hang and swing instead of holding a crease. Order your usual size; if you are between sizes, take the larger — there is no stretch panel at the waist to absorb the difference.

Fabric and care

95% polyester, 5% cotton. That blend is why they travel well — they come out of a bag without creases and they do not need ironing. Machine washable, no dry cleaning.

Length, and what to wear flare pants with slits with

Flares are cut long on purpose so the hem clears the floor over a heel. With flat shoes they will sit on the ground, so a slight heel or platform is the intended pairing — the front slit makes this more forgiving than a closed flare, but it does not eliminate it.
