Denim is sized by waist. Many of the brands we carry — including Judy Blue, RISEN and KanCan — label sizes as a number followed by the waist measurement, for example 7(28).

Tummy-control denim: Styles with a tummy-control waistband run more generous than standard denim. If you are between sizes in these, size down — the compression panel adds structure and takes up the extra room.

How to Measure

Use a soft tape measure over your underwear, not over clothing. Keep the tape level and snug, but not tight enough to compress.

Bust — measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level across your back.
Waist — measure around the narrowest part of your natural waist, usually just above the belly button. Don't hold your breath.
Hip — stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
Inseam — measure from the top of your inner thigh down to where you want the hem to fall, in the shoes you plan to wear.

Still Between Sizes?

If you land between two sizes, the fabric decides it:

Woven, non-stretch (most shirts, blazers, structured dresses) — size up.
Heavy stretch (leggings, ponte, tummy-control denim) — size down.
Oversized or relaxed styles — take your usual size; the extra room is already built in.

A polo top cut oversized, in black, with a striped collar and placket in a contrasting color. It's the collar that does the work here — a plain black oversized top is a plain black oversized top, but a striped contrast collar turns it into something with a point of view.

What makes it work

The contrast collar. Stripes against solid black, framing the neckline — it reads sporty and slightly retro at the same time.
Button placket. Wear it buttoned to the top for a neat line, or open for something more relaxed.
Genuinely oversized. Cut wide through the body, so it falls away rather than following your shape.
A collar that stands up. A polo collar gives structure at the neck that a crew neck can't — useful when the rest of the outfit is soft.
Slight stretch from the spandex in the blend, so the collar and cuffs keep their shape.

Fabric and fit

95% polyester with 5% spandex. Sizes M through XL, cut loose through the bust and body. If you want it merely relaxed rather than oversized, take the smallest size that fits your shoulders — there's a lot of ease built in at every size.

Front-tucked into high-waisted jeans, so the volume has a stopping point.
Loose over leggings or bike shorts.
Buttoned to the top with wide-leg trousers — oversized on both halves, done deliberately.
Under a blazer with the striped collar showing above the lapel.

Good to know

How oversized is oversized? Meaningfully so — the body is cut several inches wider than a standard fit at every size. It's designed to be roomy, not to be sized up further.

Will the collar go limp? The spandex in the blend helps it hold. Hang it rather than folding, and the collar stays standing.

Does it work tucked? A front tuck works better than a full tuck with this much fabric through the body.
