Denim & Jeans

Denim is sized by waist. Many of the brands we carry — including Judy Blue, RISEN and KanCan — label sizes as a number followed by the waist measurement, for example 7(28).

Tummy-control denim: Styles with a tummy-control waistband run more generous than standard denim. If you are between sizes in these, size down — the compression panel adds structure and takes up the extra room.

How to Measure

Use a soft tape measure over your underwear, not over clothing. Keep the tape level and snug, but not tight enough to compress.

Bust — measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level across your back.
Waist — measure around the narrowest part of your natural waist, usually just above the belly button. Don't hold your breath.
Hip — stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
Inseam — measure from the top of your inner thigh down to where you want the hem to fall, in the shoes you plan to wear.

Still Between Sizes?

If you land between two sizes, the fabric decides it:

Woven, non-stretch (most shirts, blazers, structured dresses) — size up.
Heavy stretch (leggings, ponte, tummy-control denim) — size down.
Oversized or relaxed styles — take your usual size; the extra room is already built in.

Striped Turtleneck Long Sleeve Top

A striped turtleneck with exposed seams down the front, in black and white, blue and white, or solid brown, in sizes S to L. Exposed seaming is the whole look here — the stitching runs on the outside of the garment rather than hidden inside it, which gives a plain knit some structure.

How this striped turtleneck fits

Close-fitting through the body and arm, which is what a turtleneck needs to be if it is going to layer under anything. The knit has real stretch, so it pulls on over the head easily and the neck is not tight. Note the size range stops at L on this one. Between sizes, size down — the stretch will take it.

Fabric and care

65% polyester, 35% cotton. The cotton keeps it from feeling plasticky against the skin and the polyester is what holds the stripe crisp and stops it bagging at the elbow. Machine wash cold, tumble dry low.

What to wear it with

Under a blazer or a pinafore, or on its own with wide leg jeans. Horizontal stripes and a wide-leg trouser is a reliably good combination because the volume is split between top and bottom. More in long sleeve tops.
