Denim is sized by waist. Many of the brands we carry — including Judy Blue, RISEN and KanCan — label sizes as a number followed by the waist measurement, for example 7(28).

Tummy-control denim: Styles with a tummy-control waistband run more generous than standard denim. If you are between sizes in these, size down — the compression panel adds structure and takes up the extra room.

How to Measure

Use a soft tape measure over your underwear, not over clothing. Keep the tape level and snug, but not tight enough to compress.

  1. Bust — measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level across your back.
  2. Waist — measure around the narrowest part of your natural waist, usually just above the belly button. Don't hold your breath.
  3. Hip — stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
  4. Inseam — measure from the top of your inner thigh down to where you want the hem to fall, in the shoes you plan to wear.

Still Between Sizes?

If you land between two sizes, the fabric decides it:

  • Woven, non-stretch (most shirts, blazers, structured dresses) — size up.
  • Heavy stretch (leggings, ponte, tummy-control denim) — size down.
  • Oversized or relaxed styles — take your usual size; the extra room is already built in.

What a high-low hem solves

A full-length maxi has one recurring problem: the hem drags, catches on heels, and gets dirty. A high-low cut fixes it by lifting the front while keeping the drama of the length at the back. You get the sweep of a maxi and can still climb stairs.

It also breaks up what would otherwise be an unbroken vertical line, which is why high-low dresses read as more designed than a straight-hem maxi in the same fabric.

Is this plus size? The range runs S through 3XL — extended sizing rather than plus-only. Order by measurement.

Will the back hem drag? That's the design, but it does mean the back picks up more wear than the front. Worth knowing if you're often on rough ground.

How should I store it? Hang it. A long dress folded in a drawer creases along the fold and the crease is stubborn.
