Denim is sized by waist. Many of the brands we carry — including Judy Blue, RISEN and KanCan — label sizes as a number followed by the waist measurement, for example 7(28).

Tummy-control denim: Styles with a tummy-control waistband run more generous than standard denim. If you are between sizes in these, size down — the compression panel adds structure and takes up the extra room.

How to Measure

Use a soft tape measure over your underwear, not over clothing. Keep the tape level and snug, but not tight enough to compress.

  1. Bust — measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level across your back.
  2. Waist — measure around the narrowest part of your natural waist, usually just above the belly button. Don't hold your breath.
  3. Hip — stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
  4. Inseam — measure from the top of your inner thigh down to where you want the hem to fall, in the shoes you plan to wear.

Still Between Sizes?

If you land between two sizes, the fabric decides it:

  • Woven, non-stretch (most shirts, blazers, structured dresses) — size up.
  • Heavy stretch (leggings, ponte, tummy-control denim) — size down.
  • Oversized or relaxed styles — take your usual size; the extra room is already built in.

Cotton, not polyester

This is 95% cotton with 5% spandex — unusual for an occasion dress at this price, and it changes how it wears. Cotton breathes, which matters a great deal in a fitted strapless dress at a summer wedding or a warm room. Polyester in the same cut traps heat exactly where you don't want it.

The trade-off is that cotton creases more, so hang it rather than folding it into a bag.

Size this by your bust — nothing else

A strapless dress has one job: staying up. That depends entirely on fitting closely at the bust, and this one runs narrow — 33.1" at S rising to 39.4" at 2XL.

Measure around the fullest part of your bust and match it to the chart. Too large is the only way a strapless dress fails, and no amount of adjusting fixes it once it's on.

Ruching and A-line, working together

Ruching is fabric gathered into small folds. It does two things at once: it adds texture, and because gathered fabric follows a curve instead of pulling flat across it, it skims rather than clings.

The A-line skirt then does the opposite job — it releases away from the body from the waist down. Fitted and textured on top, loose and moving below. That contrast is the entire silhouette.

Is it lined? No. In the white especially, plan on seamless underwear or a slip.
