Denim is sized by waist. Many of the brands we carry — including Judy Blue, RISEN and KanCan — label sizes as a number followed by the waist measurement, for example 7(28).

Tummy-control denim: Styles with a tummy-control waistband run more generous than standard denim. If you are between sizes in these, size down — the compression panel adds structure and takes up the extra room.

How to Measure

Use a soft tape measure over your underwear, not over clothing. Keep the tape level and snug, but not tight enough to compress.

Bust — measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level across your back.
Waist — measure around the narrowest part of your natural waist, usually just above the belly button. Don't hold your breath.
Hip — stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
Inseam — measure from the top of your inner thigh down to where you want the hem to fall, in the shoes you plan to wear.

Still Between Sizes?

If you land between two sizes, the fabric decides it:

Woven, non-stretch (most shirts, blazers, structured dresses) — size up.
Heavy stretch (leggings, ponte, tummy-control denim) — size down.
Oversized or relaxed styles — take your usual size; the extra room is already built in.

No zip, no button digging in — you pull them on, tie the waist where it's comfortable, and get on with the day. And there are real pockets.

Why these get worn out first

100% cotton. Breathable in a way polyester isn't, and it gets softer with every wash rather than shinier.
Drawstring waist. You set the tightness. Nothing digs in after lunch.
Pockets that hold things. Phone, keys, the usual.
Washed finish. The coffee brown has a lived-in depth to it rather than a flat, brand-new dye.
Genuinely wide leg. The hip measures 40.2" to 48" and the leg falls straight from there.

Fit and length

Sizes S through XL. The waist runs 26.4" (S) to 34.3" (XL), but the drawstring means you aren't locked to those numbers — go by hip instead, which runs 40.2" to 48". The inseam is a consistent 28.7"–28.8" across every size and total length is 40.2"–41.3", so on most heights they'll graze the top of a shoe. Taller than about 5'8", expect a slightly cropped ankle — which happens to be how these are usually styled anyway.

A fitted tank or bodysuit. A wide leg wants a narrow top to balance it.
A cropped knit, so the waistline stays visible.
Flat sandals in summer, a chunky boot when it turns.

Before you order

Will 100% cotton shrink? Cotton can shrink a little on the first wash. Cold water and a low dryer setting keeps it minimal, or hang them to dry and skip the question entirely.

Is there any stretch? No. These are pure cotton with no spandex, which is exactly why the drawstring waist matters — that's where the give comes from.

Do they wrinkle? Cotton creases; that's the trade-off for how it breathes. A quick steam sorts it out, and the washed finish hides more than a crisp cotton would.
