Denim & Jeans

Denim is sized by waist. Many of the brands we carry — including Judy Blue, RISEN and KanCan — label sizes as a number followed by the waist measurement, for example 7(28).

Tummy-control denim: Styles with a tummy-control waistband run more generous than standard denim. If you are between sizes in these, size down — the compression panel adds structure and takes up the extra room.

How to Measure

Use a soft tape measure over your underwear, not over clothing. Keep the tape level and snug, but not tight enough to compress.

Bust — measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level across your back.
Waist — measure around the narrowest part of your natural waist, usually just above the belly button. Don't hold your breath.
Hip — stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and seat.
Inseam — measure from the top of your inner thigh down to where you want the hem to fall, in the shoes you plan to wear.

Still Between Sizes?

If you land between two sizes, the fabric decides it:

Woven, non-stretch (most shirts, blazers, structured dresses) — size up.
Heavy stretch (leggings, ponte, tummy-control denim) — size down.
Oversized or relaxed styles — take your usual size; the extra room is already built in.

A white mini denim skirt printed all over with western motifs — cactus, horse, and bull. It's a plain denim mini underneath the print, which is why it works: familiar shape, unexpected surface.

The details

Western print across white denim — cactus, horses, bulls. Not a single graphic, an all-over pattern.
Mini length. Roughly 16.5" to 17.7" from the waist, which is genuinely short.
Pockets.
Stretch denim. 98% cotton with 2% elastane, so it gives when you sit rather than fighting you.
Sizes S through XL.

Fabric and fit

A cotton denim with a small amount of elastane — enough to move with you, not so much that it loses its shape by the afternoon. That's the ratio you want in a fitted short skirt.

Fit it at the hip. In a mini this fitted, the hip measurement decides whether it works, and the waist follows. Sizes run S to XL with hips from about 37" to 45".

How to wear it

With cowboy boots, which is the obvious answer and also the correct one.
A plain white tee tucked in, so the print is the only pattern in the outfit.
With opaque tights and ankle boots once it turns cold.
Under an oversized denim jacket in a contrasting wash.

Good to know

How short is it? Around 17" from the waist, so mid-thigh on most heights. If that's shorter than you want, it works well over bike shorts or with tights.

Will white denim stay white? Wash it cold, separately from anything dark, and treat marks quickly. White denim rewards a little care.

Does the print fade? Wash it inside out on cold. That's the single best thing you can do for any printed denim.
